A text editor for Linux

TypersPad is a free desktop text editor for Linux. Download one AppImage file, make it executable and run it.

It keeps your tabs, checks your spelling, and can sync with your Windows PC or Mac.

Download for Linux How sync works

Also for Windows and Mac. Free, version 1.0.1.

Why TypersPad on Linux

Linux has great editors for code. TypersPad is for the notes and text files in between.

It is simple, it keeps every tab, and the same tabs can open on your other computers.

What you get

One AppImage

A single file. Make it executable and double-click it.

Or a .tar.gz with installer

Its install.sh installs for your user only. No root needed.

Tabs that stay open

Close it and open it again. Your tabs are back, even unsaved ones.

Sync with Windows and Mac

Turn on sync, and the same tabs open on your other computers.

Spell check in 38 languages

Dictionaries download once, then work offline.

Colours for code

Syntax colours for 18 languages, plus line numbers.

Private on your machine

Settings and tabs live in ~/.config/TypersPad. Your Google sign-in is stored in a file only your user account can read.

If you turn on sync, your tabs go to your own Google Drive. They never pass through our servers.

Installing on Linux

TypersPad runs on 64-bit Linux with X11 or XWayland: Ubuntu 20.04, Debian 11, Fedora 32 or later, and similar.

Download the AppImage, make it executable and run it. Or use the .tar.gz and run install.sh to add TypersPad to your menu.

TypersPad checks for updates when it starts. When a new version is out, it opens the download page.

In a terminal
wget -O TypersPad.AppImage "https://typerspad.com/download.php?f=linux&via=wget" && chmod +x TypersPad.AppImage && ./TypersPad.AppImage
