TypersPad Google Drive sync

A text editor with Google Drive sync

TypersPad keeps the same tabs open on all your computers. It does this through your own Google Drive.

Sign in once on each computer, and your tabs follow you.

Download How sync works

Free for Windows, Mac and Linux. No account needed.

Why sync through your own Drive

Many note apps sync through their own servers. TypersPad has no servers for your text. It uses the Google Drive you already have.

So your text sits in one place you control. You can see the files in your Drive, and you can disconnect at any time.

How sync works

Type on one computer

About 2.5 seconds after you stop typing, the tab is uploaded to your Drive.

It shows up on the other

Your other computers check every 15 seconds, and straight away when you switch to TypersPad.

Edits on both at once

Nothing is lost. If both changed before they could sync, the other version opens as a conflict copy tab.

Closing a tab

Close a tab on one computer and it closes on all of them. Its Drive copy goes to your Drive bin.

Works offline

Keep typing without internet. TypersPad catches up when you’re back online.

Windows, Mac and Linux

Sync works between any mix of the three.

What TypersPad can see in your Drive

TypersPad only asks Google for the drive.file permission. That means it can only see files it made itself. It can’t read the rest of your Drive.

Your text goes straight from your computer to Google. It never passes through our servers. Your Google sign-in is stored on your computer, not with us.

Google’s privacy policy applies to what is stored in your Drive.

Setting up sync

Install TypersPad on each computer. Open Cloud > Settings and click Connect with Google.

Use the same Google account everywhere. Your tabs are kept in a TypersPad folder in your Drive.

Questions

Do I need a paid Google account?

No. A free Google account works. Tabs are small text files, so they use very little space.

Can you read my notes?

No. Your text goes between your computers and your Google Drive. It never passes through our servers.

Can TypersPad see my other Drive files?

No. It uses Google’s drive.file permission, so it can only see files it created.

What if I’m offline?

Keep working. Your tabs are kept on your computer, and sync catches up when you’re back online.

Can I use TypersPad without sync?

Yes. Sync is optional. Without it, everything stays on your computer.
